# Georgia Unemployment: Claim & Job Search Dashboard
> [!IMPORTANT]
> **Start here:** [Georgia Department of Labor — MyUI Claimant Portal](https://dol.georgia.gov/). On the official site, select **Log Into MyUI**. File the claim as soon as possible. **Being fired does not automatically mean you are ineligible.** The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) makes that determination.
**This page is your checklist and log, not your application.** Only the official Georgia Department of Labor website can accept your claim, weekly certifications, work-search reports, and appeals. Rules and requirements can change; follow any instructions GDOL sends you.
## Mission control
| Item | Your status |

| Initial application | Not started |
| Application submitted | — |

*Update the table as you move through the process. Keep deadlines and confirmation numbers in a **private** note, not on a published page.*
## 1. File the initial claim
**Official starting points:**
- [MyUI access — Georgia Department of Labor](https://dol.georgia.gov/) — select **Log Into MyUI**.
- [How to file an unemployment claim](https://dol.georgia.gov/file-unemployment-insurance-claim)
- [Georgia unemployment overview](https://dol.georgia.gov/get-unemployment-assistance)
### Gather this first
- [ ] Social Security number (**enter only on official websites; don't put it in this note**)
- [ ] Valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID
- [ ] Personal email address and phone/computer for identity verification
- [ ] Employment history for the last 18 months (employers, addresses, dates)
- [ ] Amazon work location, start date, last day worked, and employment details
- [ ] Separation letter or termination notice, **if available**
- [ ] Bank routing and account information **if choosing direct deposit** (never store here)
- [ ] Dates and factual description of the incident or reason for termination
### Submit
- [ ] Open the official MyUI portal and set up the account/password/PIN as instructed
- [ ] Complete any required identity verification
- [ ] Select **Apply for Benefits** and answer all questions accurately
- [ ] Save the submission confirmation in a private place
- [ ] Watch for confirmation email and further requests from GDOL
**Important:** Filing does not guarantee approval, and waiting to file may mean losing weeks you otherwise could have claimed. Keep watching for notices; Georgia says an error-free application can still take **21 days or more** before a weekly benefit payment becomes accessible.
## 2. Explain the termination truthfully
You can apply even if Amazon fired you. Georgia considers whether the employer can establish disqualifying job-related misconduct. A workplace disagreement, a policy violation, and a threat or act of aggression may be evaluated very differently.
- [ ] Write a private, factual timeline: date, location, what happened, who was involved
- [ ] Save any termination notice, HR emails, prior warnings, and relevant messages
- [ ] Note what you personally witnessed versus what others told you
- [ ] Describe the separation accurately on the application; **do not guess, exaggerate, or omit material facts**
- [ ] Respond promptly if GDOL asks for more information
**Private incident summary template:**
```text
Date of incident:
Date employment ended:
Reason Amazon gave:
What happened (facts, in order):
Prior warnings or policies discussed:
Witnesses / records available:
Information still uncertain:
```
> [!NOTE]
> Do **not** publish a filled-in incident summary or personnel documents. Keep them in a private file. An application may be approved or denied depending on the facts; do not self-disqualify before filing.
## 3. Register for employment services
- [ ] Complete the required [WorkSource Georgia employment-services registration](https://dol.georgia.gov/get-unemployment-assistance) using the official registration link on that page, unless GDOL specifically says you are exempt.
- [ ] Save the registration confirmation privately.
## 4. Every week: two separate jobs
**Submitting the initial application is NOT the same as requesting a weekly payment.** Even while a claim is pending, continue completing required weekly certifications and work searches.
### Weekly checklist — duplicate for each week
**Week ending:** `YYYY-MM-DD`
- [ ] Look for suitable work and make **at least three new, verifiable employer contacts** (unless GDOL has expressly exempted you)
- [ ] Record the employer, job title, date, method, URL/address, and outcome for each contact
- [ ] [Request/certify the weekly UI payment](https://dol.georgia.gov/online-services) through MyUI
- [ ] [Submit the weekly work-search record](https://dol.georgia.gov/learn-about-work-search-requirements)
- [ ] Report **gross earnings for work performed that week**, even if not paid yet
- [ ] Truthfully report availability for work and any suitable-work offers/refusals
- [ ] Save confirmations privately and check MyUI for new messages
**Work-search log (example layout — replace the sample rows):**
| Date | Employer | Position / job ID | Contact method / URL | Result |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| YYYY-MM-DD | — | — | — | — |
| YYYY-MM-DD | — | — | — | — |
| YYYY-MM-DD | — | — | — | — |
Georgia requires **three new reportable job contacts each week** unless exempt, and the agency can verify them. Keep the actual records accurate. Don't submit invented applications or recycled contacts as new contacts.
## 5. Track the claim and payments
- [ ] Check [MyUI via Georgia DOL](https://dol.georgia.gov/) for claim status and messages
- [ ] Read and save every official determination or request
- [ ] Review the wages and dates shown on any monetary determination for accuracy
- [ ] Check that payment information is current
- [ ] Keep filing weekly certifications and work searches while awaiting an eligibility decision
**What to expect:** A determination of potential benefit amount is not necessarily the final decision that you are eligible to receive payments. The GDOL may separately investigate why you left Amazon. Payment can be delayed while that issue is resolved.
## 6. If benefits are denied
**Do not ignore the notice.** Georgia generally gives **15 days from the date on the determination or decision** to appeal, as specified in the notice.
- [ ] Read the decision and identify exactly why the claim was denied
- [ ] Record the appeal deadline **privately** and set a reminder immediately
- [ ] [File an appeal through GDOL](https://dol.georgia.gov/file-appeal) before the deadline
- [ ] Explain specifically what facts or findings you disagree with, accurately
- [ ] Organize relevant documents and firsthand witnesses
- [ ] Continue requesting weekly benefits **and** submitting weekly work-search records during the appeal
- [ ] Watch for hearing notices and follow all instructions
A successful appeal can potentially result in payment for eligible weeks that were properly certified and documented. It is not automatic.
