In the year twenty-oh-eight and for quite some time hard work and dedication didn't get you anywhere but fucked-hard by loyalists. But every once in a while there is a pothole in the road that makes life skip a beat. This morning that pothole worked to my advantage. My boss arrived shortly after five o'clock in the morning. Nothing... I was confused. In fact at about three o'clock this morning I had come to the conclusion that Mary would just let the two bosses leave and not do anything about it. Take this opportunity to shave two bosses of the payroll and just make due with what's left over. But I'm still anxious. Still curious. Mary likes being in dangerous situations, as she has made that clear in the past, but this is TOO thin of ice to try and walk, run and dance on and expect to make it to the finish line. Yesterday she kept asking me: "So how are you?" It didn't stick out until she asked me the third time. "How do you feel about all your buddies leaving?" she asks. "They come and they go, makes no difference to me at all."
Sysco comes with their delivery and starts hauling load after load of product into the restaurant. I make my way to the back and smoke a cigarette, which is in back, where I'm almost guaranteed a conversation with the boss who is running around making sure Sysco gave her the right stuff. And rightfully so. She comes up and starts talking about Mexico, a trip she just returned from.
_"So Mr. Bill..."
_
A surge of electricity zaps up my spine like first rising vibes of an acid frenzy.
_"How do you feel about being a supervisor?"_
More conversation followed but the morale of the story is, what I have needed to have happen at work has and now the future only looks brighter. There will be bumps in the road. The differences of what is "right" and "wrong" between me and the rest of the superpowers are polar, putting it lightly. So there will be a day in the future when that comes to a head. But for the time being time its a moment of transition. I'm now in charge of the show when I'm there and that makes me the happiest person on campus.
