There is a small cafe in an even smaller town called Portage in Wisconsin. Too far and not fancy enough for a Milwaukee city-dweller to come and check out, but good enough to stay around due to the regulars. A facet of the area, a cornerstone to the locale areas culture. A twenty-four hour establishment that will serve up anybody a hot cup of coffee and a patty melt, at any hour. As much as the business is a key ingredient to the lives of the locales, the business is a key ingredient to the lives of the employees. Unlike any other place in the area, a small cafe employs people whos tenture at the business exceeds the age of the youngest dishwashers. Far enough from the city of Milwaukee to be proudly conservative. In the morning like clockwork old, retired men gather around the counter and sip coffee and pu-pu all every every article in the paper. When Obama was President they didn't have enough bad things to say about everything government related. This was part of the accepted everyday culture of the business. It was a chamelion. At night it would serve up some of the most disturbing behaviors as a result of over consumption of alcohal. It is a small town in Wisconsin afterall. People in Wisconsin drown themselves in unbelievable amounts of alcohal, pride themselves in blacking out, drive drunk regularily - most often before even becoming legal age to drink. You don't meet many suburban kids in Wisconsin who are younger than eighteen years that do not already have a drunk driving conviction on their criminal record. Also being far enough from the city there is quite a bit of motorcycle club activity at night after the local bars are closed.
